VILLANOVA, Pa.—Freshman Aubrey Bowles (Richmond, Va.) and junior Jake McIntyre (Essex, Vt.) were each individual winners and 10 different athletes tallied at least one top-three finish as Villanova (1-2) fell to Penn (2-1) by a final score of 174-118 in the Wildcats home opener at the Villanova Swim Complex on Wednesday evening. Bowles won the 200 back and McIntyre finished first in the 500 free to highlight the team’s results.
Two of Villanova’s top individual results against the Quakers came from Bowles who recorded a winning time of 1:51.96 in the 200 back and finished third in the 1000 free in 9:44.60. Each of those times were season bests for Bowles, who made his collegiate debut at NJIT last week where he was the runner-up in the 1000 free and placed third in the 200 back. The other individual winner for the Wildcats on Wednesday was McIntyre in the 500 free. He lowered his season-best time in that event to 4:39.97 and came in more than three full seconds ahead of the runner-up from Penn in the race.
Sophomore Ethan Brown (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Patrick Hemingway (Harrisburg, Pa.) each recorded second place individual finishes. Brown was the runner-up in the 100 back with a time of 52.08 and added a time of 4:14.93 in the 400 IM which was on the Villanova meet schedule for the first time this season. Hemingway touched the wall in 21.85 to come in second in the 50 free.
The trio of sophomore Charlie Hinckley (New York, N.Y.), junior Kevin Geist (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and sophomore Richard Nolan (Wilton, Conn.) were among the Wildcats top performers during the meet. Hinckley came in third in the 200 free in 1:44.32, while Geist finished third in the 200 fly (1:54.84) and Nolan placed third in the 200 breast (2:11.48).
Senior Michael Ackert (Rye, N.Y.) and sophomore Noah Clipman (Mohnton, Pa.) each had success in the diving events which started off the meet. Ackert came in second in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 267.75 points, while Clipman was third on both the one-meter board (255.82) and the three-meter board (270.53).
In the final event of the night the 400 free relay lineup of Hemingway, Hinckley, junior Ryan Maher (Phoenixville, Pa.) and junior Reid Hutcherson (Richmond, Va.) tallied a time of 3:12.61 to notch a second place finish.
